Episode #19: Holiday MathTACULAR!!

This week, the girls are back to talk about schizophrenic knitting, sock separation anxiety, canine vomit, and lots and lots of yarn porn. This week's intro, as usual, is from the boys at Chub Creek. The closing song is "Never Trust a Panda" by Graham Holland, and can be found on the Podsafe Music Network.

Miss Lime is working on some of the same projects she's been working on for a while now. She's plugging away at the Victorian Lace Shawl with the JaggerSpun yarn from Sarah's Yarns. She is also knitting a pair of Jaywalker socks in one of her very own hand-dyed colorways using some yarn from Wool2Dye4. Lime has finished spinning the Yarn Wench roving and is finishing up some other rovings to make room on her bobbin for Scout's roving in the Deatheaters colorway. Miss Violet is working on a number of projects including some crochet. She talks a bit about Knitting Loves Crochet byCandi Jensen and The Ultimate Source Book of Knitting and Crochet Stitches put out by Reader's Digest. Miss V has also finished her Lombard Street socks and is happily spinning Springtime Chocobird from Pippi Kneesocks.

As for yarn porn this week, see the previous post about the Holiday Gift Extravaganza. Here you will find all kinds of good links to yummy yarns, indispensible knitting books, and gorgeous knitting accessories. The girls want to congratulate Scout for her up-coming appearance on the Knitty Gritty. Roving and cookies for you, Scout!!! And don't forget to hop on over to the message boards for talk about yarn, knitting, etc, and for more information about the L&V post-holiday gift swap.

Thanks for tuning in and stay warm out there!

Lime & Violet 19: Holiday MathTACULAR!!

So after a week off to clean up shop (literally) and a metric acre of turkey (unfortunately, probably also literally), we're back to rock the mic with some talk about things like knitting schizophrenia, girls and math, and the little starry thub-thub hearts that Lime seems to be sporting in her eyes these days.

Also, there are promises of a downloadable PDF of a huuuuuge list of gifts that you can pounce your family for for the holidays, and our top three from the main categories -- books and yarn -- discussed at length.

Music this week is "Never Trust a Panda", because you know you'll fall for his black panda eyes...

Watch the blog (http://limenviolet.blogspot.com) later today for the aforementioned PDF, and a list of thankyous that's as long as our arms. (Depending on font size, that is.)

And at the time of this writing, there are only 21 items left in the etsy store. We'll be trying to remedy this ASAP. Apologies again on the sexy packaging -- it's not as L&V Pretty as we'd like it to be, but we were a bit overwhelmed. :)

THANK YOU for being here, for listening, and for all the feedback. Who loves ya, baybee?!

p.s. Mea Culpa: It's Under a Fiber Moon that talks about japanese rope bondage, not Knit With Cat Hair, who swears she never talked about bondage in her 'cast at all. Despite the lack of freakiness, we love that one, too. Tell her to come back. :)

No podcast, but some news!

Well, Thanksgiving laid waste to our plans to get the show up this past Monday. (Ever tried to crisis-clean a big house, knowing that your mother's going to see it and -notice- every bit of dust? Yep. Welcome to Miss Violet's life for the past few days. That panic, and some recovery yesterday. Yipes, squared.) We still have the Knitter's Holiday Gift Guide coming up this week, though, so stay tuned!

Also...

The Lime & Violet Etsy Extravaganza is now open, with lots of handspun yarns, hand-dyed sock yarns, and some embellishments for you and your knitgoods! We're adding things like roving and yet more yarns here today, too, so come check it out...

Episode #18: The Final Countdown

This week, Lime, Violet, and the Platonic Boyfriend talk about banjos, staggering decreases, the difference between needles and needles, and of course, yarn. The intro, as always, is by Dimple Dave and the boys of Chub Creek. And this week's closing song is "Snake" by Derek Sonderfan and can be found at the Podsafe Music Network.

Miss Lime is still working on the Victorian Lace Shawl out of JaggerSpun wool and her Lime & Violet thigh-highs out of Lisa Souza's Lime & Violet colorway for the Lime & Violet Knit-Along (I sense a theme here...). Lime has also joined the new KnitBlue Knit-Along and is currently scrambling to get even more blue things on her needles. Miss Violet is still plugging away at the Lombard Street socks in Gypsum STR, and is also making a bamboo scarf and matching mits out of some Kureyon. And both girls are currently spinning the roving they so graciously received from the Yarn Wench last week.

Thank you's go out to all who donated last week, to Sophie's Toes for the wonderful sock yarn in Harlequin and Froggy (also check out her blog here), and to Manda of KnittingPsychos for volunteering her time and knitting skills to the Lime & Violet sock cause. Also still going on, for any who missed it, is the Snakes on a Sock Knit-Along. Violet mentions some other great podcasts to sink your needles into, including Sticks & String, Sleepy Eyes Knits, Purl Diving, Math4Knitters, and Knit with Cat Hair (while we love Hazy, we've come to the conclusion that Miss V was talking about another, different podcast because Hazy has never talked about Japanese bondage). The Platonic Boyfriend sends a holla out to all of you knitters in the Huntsville, Alabama area where he will soon call home once again (he's leaving us...*sniff sniff*), and gives a review of the book Knitting with Balls by Michael del Vecchio. And before saying good night, Miss V directs the PB (and any one else out there) to go check out The Panopticon.

Lime & Violet #18: The Final Countdown

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to your iPod, Lime & Violet are back to discuss the finer points of knee nipples, the perils of Jaeger/Jagger, and why they should just put the latte down and back away slowly.

Platonic Boyfriend makes an appearance to talk to y'all about such things as keeping the power in the ovaries, errant facial hair, and knittin' with balls. He conveniently sidesteps the question of why he's abandoning us for greener, more southern pastures, though. Still, we can brand him but good before he leaves....right?

And finally, our song by Derek Sonderfan, "Snake", will help you eradicate those other, more painful, songs that circle around your brain. There are no instructions, however, for ridding yourself of this one. At least it's a good song. Ahem.

They're finally done! These are the Pembrokeshire Pathways socks that Lime hates to type, but which were actually really fun to knit. Designed by Saint Brenda and the pattern's for free over on the craftsanity podcast site (I think it's craftsanity.com, but don't hold me to that.)

They're done in Lisa Souza's amazing Sock! yarn, in the Berry Poppins colorway. Finished DURING Socktoberfest, which, sadly, were the only socks I completed during the month. (It was, to be fair, a busy month for us.)

This is one of two shots I'm uploading with pictures of the yarny goodness in the hair o' mine. How to links will be over here by Friday

This set was like piggytails, all the way past my rear, and I kept either catching them on things (or people) or sitting on them. I've forgotten what it's like to have REALLY long hair, apparently.

Episode #17: Yarn is Good...and Stuff

This week, the girls are back to talk about yarn, fiber, and many other pertenant topics including how (not) to talk to cops, how to choose the right baked good to go with your coffee, and how to avoid norovirus (not Noro virus). The intro, as always, is done by the fabulous Dave of Chub Creek. The closing song is called "Beer!" by Psychostick. And just for the record, Lime and Violet do not condone drinking and driving in any way, shape, or form. Just for the record.

On Miss Lime's needles this week is the Aran Weight Victorian Lace Shawl out of Jagerspun wool from Sarah's Yarns, and two socks for the up-coming Lime & Violet book. And on her bobbins, she has some Bountiful Fibers roving in Black Lake, and some Storyteller's roving in Tangerine. Miss Violet is NOT knitting the Pembrokeshire Pathways socks. Instead she is working on the Lombard Street socks from MagKnits in STR's Gypsum colorway. She is also spinning fiber from The Dyeing Arts, and she's crocheting...yes, crocheting...a granny square cardigan from the latest issue of Interweave Crochet with some Jagerspun silk/wool blend (also from Sarah's Yarns) and some lace-weight from Hand-Painted Yarn.

The girls send out a big, huge THANK YOU! to Blue Moon Fiber Arts for their generous gift of STR, to the Yarn Wench for the beautiful hand-painted roving that she sent as a gift, and to all of the listeners out there who have donated to the Lime & Violet cause. A new podcast called Sticks and String is available for those of you who want to hear more yarny goodness (and who doesn't?!). There is also a new Lime & Violet chatroom. The 2007 Socks That Rock Rockin' Sock Club is open for pre-registration (yay!). And a new knit-along called NaNoSweMo is underway.

Miss Violet traveled to a couple of wonderful yarn stores in Iowa. The first is The Yarn Shoppe in Davenport, IA, and the second is the Crazy Girl Yarn Store in Muscatine, IA. Miss Violet also swoons over the new issue of Interweave Knits and expresses her distaste for the new 2007 Knitter's Calender.

Thank you all for tuning in this week. Remember to get your entries in for the Till Bill contest we are having (see Episode #16). Even if you only guess one or two of the horror movies mentioned, it will get you into a drawing for a prize of yarny goodness.

Lime & Violet #17 : Yarn is Good....and stuff

An hour and a half of digressionary fun this week, as we're back to our usual format. We go over the time and space vortex that IS Wal-mart, do some store reviews from Miz V's trip out east, find out whether or not doing an entire sock in 24 hours is even possible, and decide to get help with our fiberporn addiction.

Yeah, right.... we're addicts and proud of it. (to fiber, at least....)

Music this week is by Psychostick, and is called BEER!. Intro is, as usual, done by the immensely-sexy-himself canadian-of-doom, Dave, of Chub Creek. Special thanks to Cheeky Redhead for using that Odeo link over there in the right-hand links bar. (If you're reading this at the blogspot site: http://limenviolet.blogspot.com, that is...)

Stay tuned to this bat-channel (would that be Sheep-Channel?) on Friday for a whole lot more yarnporn from the last two weeks, and as always, hop over and see us on the messageboards:
